Howard University recently announced the increase in tuition for the next school year. Currently, the people on my Twitter Timeline are complaining about the raise.
Despite where you go tuition will be raised. This is nothing new about this announcement and it is a national problem that without government supervision will continue to keep bright students out of college. Now, I understand that our economy is in ruins, despite what the government wants to say, and the financial burden that Howard imposes is great. There are many people whose heads are already barely above water and this increase is a huge financial blow. These students have the right to complain, and I strongly encourage these students to voice their concerns and grief to the University.
However what I cannot stand is a person who does nothing but sit and write in their dorm all day and complain about Howard not catering to them. No. You have no right. You aren’t involved with the Howard community at all and you have no voice. Period.
What I also cannot stand is when people CONSTANTLY COMPLAIN ABOUT HOWARD. Yes, the University has faults but there is NOTHING ON EARTH THAT IS PERFECT. You CHOSE to attend this institution. And with that decision you chose to help make it a better place for the next generation. What you do on campus now will forever accept how people perceive your degree in the future. If you funnel your energy into making it a better place then when you graduate in four years your degree will be worth five times what you paid for it.
Also, if you truly despise Howard then I want to remind you that you have the freedom to leave at any time. There have been people that left after the first semester because they recognized that this place isn’t beneficial to them and they went and perused other opportunities. If you really can’t stand Howard, then I encourage you to do the same. Because I LOVE MY HBCU and the negativity that you bring with your pessimistic attitude about my institution is annoying.
Sincerely,
A Frustrated Student
